To go along with their exhibit of literary fantasy maps, the central branch of the St. Louis Public Library needed a fantasy map of their own, one depicting the city and its many famous and not-so-famous landmarks. Over 40 individual locations were illustrated in a quirky style to reflect a specific trait or story, then assembled on a giant map that took up the entire floor of the main hall. A legend describing each locale was displayed on the facing walls, and to add an extra level of engagement, several library logos were hidden throughout the floor map as part of a scavenger hunt.. A six-foot origami dragon was also fabricated and hung from the ceiling, casting its shadow on the floor below. Patrons of the library could also take home a printed version of the map (at a much smaller scale of course).
